What happened on Saturday, October 02, 1971

  • The Mukti Bahini launched simultaneous attacks against the Pak invaders in 18 areas on the border of Comilla, Jessore and Sylhet. Hundreds of Pak soldiers were killed on the battlefields by the mortar and artillery attacks of the freedom fighters. The freedom fighters seized a lot of weapons from the Pak army. The freedom fighters attacked Kalipur, Parshuram, Khajuria, Shahpur, Kawamtala, Nayanpur, Bajjala, Harimangal, Chagalpur, Rajpur, Shalda Nadi, Madhugram, Radhanagar of Sylhet, Jayantipur, Rajghat and Hijlatali villages of Benapole in Jessore.
  • The freedom fighters of Sector 1 attacked Champaknagar BOP in Chittagong. Many Pak soldiers were killed and one freedom fighter was injured.
  • Two groups of freedom fighters from the Noakhali region attacked the Razakar camps at Ramganj and Paniala and killed many Razakars.
  • The Pak army shelled the Baurbhog freedom fighters’ camp in Sylhet at night.
  • The freedom fighters planted mines on the Phulpur-Haluaghat road in Mymensingh. A tank of the Pak army was destroyed in the mine explosion.
  • The Mukti Bahini ambush team planted mines for the Pak army at Thakurgaon in Dinajpur. A food truck of the Pak army moving towards Thakurgaon was destroyed by the mine explosion.
  • The freedom fighters carried out an adventurous operation against the Pak army at Homna in Comilla. 11 policemen and 5 razakars were killed in the clash. Later 15 razakars surrendered to the freedom fighters along with their weapons.
  • When the freedom fighters tried to cut off the communication of the Pak invaders in Sagarnal of Sylhet, they were attacked by the Razakars. 3 freedom fighters were martyred in this clash.
  • Governor Dr. A M Malik told a gathering of citizens at various levels at the court premises in Khulna that those among the genuine Pakistanis who had crossed the border would be given full security when they returned. Addressing everyone, he said, “Let us no longer deal with the past and we will not do anything to benefit the enemy.” He later addressed a gathering of military and civilian officials and razakars at the local district school grounds. He called upon the Razakars to earn the affection and love of the people through honesty, devotion and character. Appreciating the past activities of the Razakars, he advised them to continue their service with a spirit of sacrificing the territorial integrity and security of the people. “Even though the perpetrators are our relatives, they are now our enemies, so they cannot be forgiven,” he said.
  • Food and Agriculture Minister Nawazesh Ali Khan visited Chuadanga. There, he called on all to work for the service of Pakistan.
